IS Definitely A Solvable Problem."

Low Self Esteem is not something that you are born with.......and it is not something that is set and unchanging throughout your life.
Low self esteem is a fixed and negative frame of mind that you have about yourself or some aspect of your personality.
That's all it is.....a fixed and negative frame of mind.....and that fixed and negative frame of mind is built up from negative personal experiences and thoughts from your past.

An emotionally or physically abusive relationship.

Extreme embarrassment or humiliation.

Failure.

Negative people putting you down.

Pressures of life.

Some difference that others poke fun at

Many types of negative experiences can be at the roots of low self esteem.
And as you go through your life with low self esteem that fixed and negative frame of mind will affect everything you do.
It affects pretty much everything - the decisions you make, your relationships, the career you choose and also your physical and mental health too.
So although low self esteem can be simply defined, the effects of low self esteem can be very complex and far reaching.
It can lead to a life half lived......
And each new disappointment or upset that you suffer in the future will only add to and strengthen those negative fixed frames of mind.
It's a vicious circle.......
But what I want to tell you is this......
The main thing that you must realise if you want to improve your self esteem is that it is possible to break free from all of that.
Have you ever seen kids lacking confidence and self-esteem? Have you ever seen a kid that’s been bullied or pushed around to a point they think it’s normal for things to be that way and that it’s their fault? Let me tell you something when you teach youngsters (no matter what it is you teach them) you see it all the time.
There are times when you have to build up the inner person as well as the outer. When you have to teach the kid how to handle the conflicts inside themselves, as well as the conflicts that they may face out on the Street. You need to teach respect for others, by first teaching them to respect themselves.
There is no Fool Proof Formula but I can tell you now that we have seen some amazing transformations in children who have attended our Martial Arts School.
If you have a Martial Arts School near you, go and take a look. Talk to the Instructors and if you like what you see and hear. Let your children give it a go.
Train Smart
Sensei Malcolm Bale

Learn Self Defense

What Causes "Side Stitch"?

What Causes "Side Stitches," and How do I get rid of them?
A "side stitch" is a sharp pain under the lower edge of the ribcage caused by a muscle spasm of the diaphragm.
Such pain can occur during vigorous exercise, such as running, and seems to more common in novice exercisers who have not yet established proper pacing and who tend to breathe more quickly and shallow.
However, a large percentage of all runners will experience side stitches at some point.
What exactly causes Side Stitches?
As we breathe in, we take air into the lungs, pressing the diaphragm downward. When we exhale, the diaphragm moves up. If the body has some trapped air/gas below the diaphragm, if we've eaten too close to exercise, or if we start exercising too vigorously, the diaphragm may cramp, causing pain under the rib cage on the right side.

A Cure for Side Stitch?
As with any muscle cramp, the best immediate treatment is to try to stretch the cramping muscle as much as possible.
How do you get to the diaphragm on the inside of your body?, Try altering your breathing pattern. Take a deep breath in as quickly as you can, to force the diaphragm down. Hold the breath for a couple of seconds and then forcibly exhale through pursed lips to restrict the outward air flow.
You may also find that bending forward can help you expel as much air as possible. I have actually found that stretching up as tall as I could, even to the point of extending arms up over head, then alternating crouch-tall and tightening/flexing the abs, helped as well.
You may have to stop and walk for a few seconds while concentrating on deep breathing. Continue running after the stitch goes away. If you get a cramp in the middle of a race, you might want to try mixing up your rhythmic breathing/ striding pattern.
If you always exhale when your right foot strikes the ground, try exhaling with the left foot strike.
Another technique that may work for some is peaceful visualization-
- if you are feeling stressed from the day or race, imagine you are elsewhere, & take deep calming breaths as you run.

How to Prevent Side Stitch
The most effective way to prevent a side stitch is to take deep, full "belly breaths" while running.
This allows the diaphragm to fully lower and reduces the stress on it. Taking a lot of shallow breaths when running, the diaphragm remains in a consistently high position and never lowers enough to allow the connective ligaments of the liver to relax.
The diaphragm becomes stressed and a "stitch" may result. Another way to prevent stitches is ensure you include a warm-up that helps gradually increase your running speed

Until the Next Stitch :o)
Sensei Malcolm Bale

Learn Self Defense

Who is the Little Samurai Program for?

The Little Samurai Program is for Children from 5 to 8 years old.

Every Module Covers the following areas

<ul style="background-color: transparent; Whether your goals are self-confidence, self-defense, personal development, fitness, and flexibility or to earn a black belt, our school will take you there.
Martial Arts are Great for Children
Parents today are recognizing that the public school system is not enough. Millions of parents are bringing martial arts, as we teach here, into their children's lives to supplement their education.
Carleton University, in a study reported in Psychology Today (January 1985), found that children in martial arts have a lower level of anxiety; an increased sense of responsibility; a decrease in the willingness to take foolish risks; a higher sense of self-esteem; higher level of social intelligence; and were less likely to be radical.
Parents report these five important benefits for their children from our martial arts classes:

1. Our Reward System improves children's self-esteem
Martial arts are not like team sports because the emphasis is on developing the individual's self-esteem not the team's winning record. The belt and stripe system is the key. When kids earn their belts or stripes it gives them a great sense of accomplishment that really improves the way they feel about themselves.
2. Our program teaches children Discipline
On of the things parents appreciate most about our classes is the improvement in their child's self-discipline. We have a wonderful instructors who love to work with children, but are also very clear about limits. We enforce good rules of behavior in class, and we expect the same good behavior at home and in school.
3. Our activities channel children's Aggression
Many doctors actually prescribed our school for treatment because of the positive outlet it gives the kids for all their energy.
4. Our confidence classes enhance children's Self-Esteem
We believe confidence is one of the most important things we can give kids. That's why every class we teach has confidence-building drills included.
5. Our program teaches children essential Self Defence skills
Our program teaches practical, proven self-defense methods. We also teach the kids that the moves they learn in class will work, so they don't go home and try them on their sister, or neighbour.

Martial Arts is a Fun, Fulfilling Workout for Adults
Our adult students really appreciate the differences between martial arts training and standard exercise programs.
6. Our workouts are a great way to get in shape
Martial arts like an exercise program with a bonus! You learn to defend yourself while you get in shape.
7. Our classes relieve Stress
Martial arts are well known for its stress relieving benefits. The emphasis on mind-body training goes far beyond the benefits of standard, health club type exercise programs.
8. Our classroom practice sessions give you Confidence
I think the confidence building part of our program is what students appreciate the most. Nothing can take the place of the security in knowing that you can defend yourself, if you have to.
9. What we teach you could save your life
At our school, everything we teach is reality based. Our instructor's work very hard to insure that most any situation you might encounter is covered in the classroom under very safe learning conditions, so you will be prepared.
10. Our program is a lot of fun
The reason our program is so successful is because we make the classes fun and exciting. We learned a long time ago that if people are having fun, they learn much faster.
Our Programs
We a have number of different programs to offer even the busiest students. From our martial arts for children and pre-school classes to our martial arts fitness, and black belt programs we have a program for everyone.
Our Instructors
We're proud of our instructor's accomplishments. But, we're more proud of the achievements of our students. Our instructors understand that the student's individual progress is the most important focus of their attention. That's why our instructors continue to be students themselves. They take classes, attend seminars and continually work to improve their ability to help our students reach their goals.
Our Commitment to You
We're so confident in our program that we offer a money back guarantee. If, within your first 3 classes, you don't feel you are getting the benefits you desire from our school, we will refund your money. Try getting that from a health spa.

Please do not hesitate to contact me directly with any questions.

Best Regards

Malcolm Bale
Head Instructor
http://www.ju-jitsu-rugby.com
Tel - 07954 718823

Learn Self Defense

Whose Fault When Children Don't Listen?

Focus is one of the main areas where Martial Arts can really help children.
As a parent, have you ever found yourself wishing that your son or daughter listened better? Do you feel that just a slight improvement in their listening skills would make a huge difference in their potential?
Getting your child to absorb 100% of what you're telling them is a challenge that many parents and teachers face. Did you ever wonder..."Boy I hope he listens in school better than he does at home!"
If your son or daughter could improve their listening comprehension just 10% it would have a profound impact on them don't you agree? So here's what you can do...
First understand that your child is forced to deal with dozens of external distractions during the course of the day; TV, radio, classmates, computers, and the list goes on. These external distractions combined with your child's internal distractions, (the inability to control one's thought process) cause most listening problems.
Make your child aware of these two distractions, (internal and external) teach him the difference between each, then get him to give you examples of when each one affected his ability to listen. Just this knowledge will make him a better listener.
Teach your child the importance of focusing his eyes, ears, mind, and body. Focusing all four will engage him totally in the listening process. Make sure your child knows that when it comes time to listen the first thing he has to do is look at the person talking in the eyes.
When his eyes are focused he could then tune in his ears to the message and process it in his mind. Now you're getting somewhere!
Finally, teach him about standing or sitting up straight when listening, if the body is out of focus or slouched the message will not be clearly understood. Maybe you could hold off on delivering your message until his body is focused and up -right.
Becoming aware of these simple but effective concepts will go a long way toward helping your child be a more focused listener. Try them out and see how they work!

Train Hard - Fightwize

Sensei Malcolm Bale

Learn Self Defense

Grow Your Martial Arts Club

I grew my Martial Arts Club in Canada from less than 30 students to close to 200 over a couple of years.

I could have done it much quicker but even that was quicker than I could handle.

When you reach a point where you have to start looking for a larger Full Time Location, you know you're onto something big.

I have to confess though. They will need to follow suit.

People want more for their kids than just to learn a bunch of techniques. Martial Arts can teach your children some potentially dangerous techniques, however, they need to learn responsibility in order to own them.

Every Class provides so much value, parents know they need to bring their kids along and enough fun to make the kids want to come back next week. Both parents and Children need so much more than a program that teaches punching and kicking.

Safety Awareness for kids is an area often overlooked. What would your kids actually do if approached by a stranger? What would they do if the we lost in town or a shopping mall? What do strangers look like or how do you actually describe a stranger to a child when most assaults are committed by someone they actually know? It's something we hate to think about but something that must be taught. These are just a few topics covered in the Safety Awareness aspect of our Syllabus

Find Out More About Our Martial Arts Club in Rugby

Learn Self Defense

10 Minute Fitness is...

10 Minute Fitness is...

To help develop the habit of regular training

A stepping Stone!

To help you get in the habit of Training

or even back in the habit of Training

Some will do the same 14 Day Challenge again

Some people will go on to bigger and better things

Simple Effective Exercise you can do at home

Sign up today at:

MalcolmBale.com

Learn Self Defense

Ju Jitsu is......

Ju jitsu is a name used in Japanese martial arts techniques, it can be translated as “Gentle Art”, which is a bit of a misconception.

Ju jitsu came from Japan as a way of defeat of an opponent without using any weapons.

Since hitting the opponent didn't do much justice, they would be attacked with pins and throws. This worked against the attacker's energy.

There are different ways that people practise ju jitsu. Some of the techniques used include, holds, throwing, trapping, biting, gouging, striking and kicking.

Ju jitsu is practiced Worldwide in sport, self defence and traditional based arts.

•	Other methods of combat with jujitsu include:

•	Striking (kicking and punching)

•	Throwing (body throws)

•	Restraining (pinning, wrestling)

•	Defence moves (evading, blocking, escaping)

With the ju jitsu system, there is more attention paid to pinning, throwing, choking and strangling techniques. This is different than other systems of martial arts like karate. Ju Jitsu basically forms the basis of Karate, Judo and Aikido.

The danger of ju jitsu is that with training, some of the moves can be fatal. Students that have ju jitsu classes are usually taught in an environment that is not competitive. Because of that, there is not a lot of risk.

With ju jitsu, you will find five main sectors, otherwise known as the arts of training. The five sectors are:

•	The Art of Blocking

•	The Art of the Fulcrum Throw

•	The Art of the Non-Fulcrum

•	The Art of Escaping

•	The Art of Striking

Train Smart – Fightwize

There are many major risk factors including High Blood Pressure, High Blood Cholesterol, Diabetes, Obesity, Smoking and Physical Inactivity.

Another Contributing factor is Stress.

Some of these factors we can actually do something about through Good Nutrition and Regular Exercise. Good Nutrition and Regular Exercise can make an enormous difference to your health, without going OTT. Do some exercise at home, join the Gym, do whatever it takes to get yourself off the couch. Do something that's fun too and will keep you going back.

And...Did you know that one of the major causes of Stress is due to a lack of Finances? We can actually do something about that too. How about creating a second stream of income. There is more opportunity to do this that ever before. One of the methods I have used is is outlined right ==>Here<==. It goes beyond the physical, unfounded rumours and cyber-bullying are just as damaging and just as dangerous.

==> The Bully Solution <==

Bullying is basically a form of aggression directed by one or more people towards another person. The victim is oftentimes smaller, more passive, and not prone to fight back, basically a perfect target for a bully.

Bullying may take physical or verbal, from punching, shoving, kicking and holding to stealing or breaking a student's belongings. Or using words instead of fists, but the aftereffects may be just as destructive.

Verbal abuse may involve threats, insults, sarcasm, name-calling, slurs, put downs, ridicule or spreading rumours.

Cyber bullying is on the rise, it occurs through use of e-mail, mobile phones, text messages or social network sites to intimidating or threatening other students.

Bullying often crosses into harassment, that is continued abuse or threats made as the result of a person's specific characteristic, such as race, sex, or physical or mental disability.

It’s important to remember that Bullies are basically cowards. They will never pick on someone who is their size or larger, and they will not provoke someone who is likely to fight back or mount any sort of defense. They are counting on the passiveness of their victims to ensure their successful abuse or threats.

In addition, standing up to a bully almost always means the bully will back down, even if the bully is physically larger or stronger than the victim. Remember though that bullies often surround themselves with hangers-on, and one person standing up against a group might not be the wisest choice.

If you suspect your child is being bullied, talk to them, give them a chance to open up about their experiences at school each day. No doubt at first they will be reluctant to talk about, it is a source of embarrassment for them. But be sure to keep those lines of communication open and make them feel comfortable coming to you with their problems.

Resist the urge to confront the bully or the bully's parents straight away. This will do nothing to increase your child's self-esteem and may only make things worse. You may however, wish to let school officials know what is going on so that they may keep an eye on the situation.

Some parents enroll their children in Martial Arts to develop more assertiveness, higher self-esteem, as well as the ability to successfully defend themselves.

==> The Bully Solution <==

There is also nothing wrong with walking away from a bullying situation, and your child needs this affirmed. The child can tell the bully to leave him alone, or come up with a snappy retort at whatever the bully says. Sometimes humour goes a long way in diffusing unpredictable situations.

Children should also be told that it’s perfectly acceptable to inform an adult if they witness another child being bullied. One should never stand idly by, allowing the abuse of another person to go unchallenged.

Likewise, bullies need to be told that their behavior is not acceptable and will not be tolerated. Ongoing bullying behavior may result in psychological treatment or in many cases detention or other discipline.

Bullying is commonly considered as a problem amongst boys, but girls are just as capable of bullying. Girls tend to be less physical in bullying, choosing instead to intimidate through seclusion or gossip.

Bullying will never completely go away. There’ll always be those who feel that mistreatment, abuse, and threats of violence being the better way to get ahead. Most people have some idea of Karate, Judo, Taekwondo, Kung Fu etc as they became popular in the 1970’s and 80’s.

So “what is Jiu Jitsu"?

Ju-Jitsu forms the basis of many Martial Art Styles such as Karate, Judo and Aikido so could be classed as a mixed martial art in the modern sense of the term.

It consists of a mixture of throwing Techniques, Ground Techniques, Joint Manipulations and striking techniques with both the hands and feet. Jiu Jitsu Fitness is an aspect that needs specific attention too.

It is potentially lifelong Art, you can commit to at any age, to any degree. It's about learning techniques and adjusting them as necessary to suit you, your body, your size, your weight and your level of fitness. It is about taking advantage of any available elements such as momentum, leverage, anatomy and environment. You will learn some great skills, acquire great knowledge and create many friends. Ju Jitsu makes you become more aware of your body and it's capabilities.

There are so many benefits to be gained through Ju Jitsu. Increased health and Fitness, weight control, Improved Confidence and Self Esteem, enhanced levels of focus and concentration and improved physical skills such as balance, Coordination, flexibility and strength.

The term Jujutsu dates back to the 1600's. The translation of "Gentle Art" is quite a misconception as it was a method of combat either armed or unarmed.

The Art was used by protectors of prominent individuals. Situations could be dealt with quickly and effectively, without drawing attention. Protectors could take care of and remove Reprobates very quickly and tactfully.

Until recently, most people have never even heard of Jiu Jitsu or have much idea what it is but with the ever increasing popularity of Mixed Martial Arts such as UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) many people are becoming much more aware of it's existence.

There are many other organisations appearing around, the world showing mixed martial art competition. Ju jitsu has proven to be one of the areas many combatants are concentrating on as it has proved to be so very effective.

There are many different styles of Ju Jitsu, you will also come across several different spellings such as - Jiu Jitsu, Ju Jutsu and Jiu-Jitsu.

There are several different style functions too. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for example is generally a competitive Sport, then you have the Traditional forms where the techniques are taught as close as possible to their origins and then you have the self defense forms where techniques have evolved to suit modern day possibilities.

So when asked the question, what is Jiu-Jitsu you may get various different answers depending on a person's particular involvement.

Some of the other Arts such as Tae Kwon Do, Karate, Kung Fu and Judo have been much more popular and when parents are looking for a sport or Self Defense for their children, they would automatically look to one of these Arts without really knowing what they are getting in to, other than the fact that they are Martial arts.

Malcolm Bale - Ju-Jitsu Rugby

PS - Come and Join in for a class or two. This misconception may be due to movies where people do a very high or spinning roundhouse kick.

While these are not bad, they are difficult for most people to do effectively with speed and or strength.

The fastest, easiest and most powerful roundhouse kick is the one that is below that waist of the person kicking. If the roundhouse kick is higher then the waist of the person performing the strike, it looses power and take more time and flexibility.

It can be used very effectively by targeting the lower targets of the inner or outer thighs or more importantly to target the nerves that supply these large muscles. It can also be used to target the knees and cause serious damage.

You can use it as a very effective distracting strike from your front leg or as a very effective power strike from your rear most leg.

A low roundhouse kick is also good because many people while fighting or sparing are too concentrated on their upper bodies and a low attack may be unexpected and harder to block.

The reason the roundhouse kick is one of the more powerful strikes is because it is a whole body motion. The roundhouse kick using the back or front leg starts with bringing the leg up, turning the non-kicking foot so that is parallel with the object that is being struck, and extending the kicking leg while rotating the upper body through. This, if done correctly, can generate a powerful force able to stun or knock down most opponents.

An important note to remember while performing the roundhouse kick or any strike is to aim at least six inches past the target. This will ensure that this technique strikes through the opponent, not just hit the outside of the target without the maximum force that could have been applied had the aiming been correct.

Aside from points of aim, the roundhouse kick offers several options for the person kicking. The target can be struck with the top of the foot, shin, or the ball of the foot when the foot is pointed instead of flat.

All of these options offer distinct advantages. Striking with the top of the foot offers a greater reach if the opponent is further away, while striking with the shin creates a stronger force since the shin is a stronger and harder then the top of the foot. Striking with the shin also provides a larger area to strike and therefore there is a greater chance of making contact with the target.

Another option is to strike with the ball of the foot. This option allows the kicker to penetrate into deep tissue or access nerves more effectively. While the roundhouse kick can look fancy it is very practical, simple, and powerful while offering many different options to the kicker on what part of the foot or leg to use.

For these reasons, the roundhouse kick is one of the best options to use whether sparring or if involved in a real fight.

Malcolm Bale
2nd Degree Blackbelt - Jiu-Jitsu
Fightwize-Self-Defense

You may reprint this article on your website or in your newsletter provided this courtesy notice and the author name and URL remain intact.
Learn Self Defense

Simple kicks for self defense

Simple kicks for self defense

Your feet can be very effective tools for striking. There are many Simple kicks for self defense that can be carried out by virtually anyone. With a little practice, you can be very effective with them.

Strikes with the feet need not be aimed high or be complex. There is no need for jumping or spinning types of kick. In fact, fine motor skills like that, cannot even be carried out during the adrenal rush of an attack by most people.

As with all self defense, techniques should consist of gross motor skills. These are simple body movements that can be carried out by virtually anyone. All of your kicks can be aimed below the waist, this helps you maintain your balance and enables you to deliver your kicks with power.

Some examples of Simple kicks for self defense are firstly the shin kick. This is just like kicking a soccer ball with the inside of your foot, in this case you’re targeting the shin with your foot. This can cause a great deal of pain, especially if you are wearing a sturdy pair of shoes.

Next is the front kick, this is simply executed by lifting your knee and extending your foot towards the intended target. The sidekick is carried out by lifting your knee and extending your foot to the side of your body, targeting the attackers knees or thighs.

A simple version of a back kick is to lift your knee and extend your heel to an intended target to your rear. Strike the target with the heel part of you foot if possible.

Simple kicks for self defense can be made to be more effective with a little applied knowledge. Twist the body, rotate the hips, strike through the target and target the weak or sensitive areas of the body. These are all effective additions in simple kicks for self defense.

There are several sensitive targets below the waist which are very effective. These targets would include the groin, inner or outer thighs, knees, shins and the instep.

Different parts of the foot can be used for different kicks. For example, the toes could be used for a round kick to thigh. The instep could also be used for a round kick. Your shin could also be used for such a kick. Other simple kicks for self defense would include the ball and heel on the bottom of the Foot.

It does help to learn an effective stance, from which to strike. An effective stance, not only disguises your intention to strike, it puts you in a more protected position and allows you to exert maximum power into your strike.

You can kick effectively, from your front leg or from your rear leg. Generally, fast distracting strikes will be executed using your front leg which would normally be closer to the attacker. Your rear leg, normally further from the attacker, can be used to execute your power kicks.

Unlike most martial arts, you are already capable of carrying out most necessary self defense techniques right now, you just haven’t been shown what they are just yet. It still takes practice to build confidence and give you the ability to carry them out in a given situation.

It is always important to remember, that most people are not capable of carrying out fine or complex motor skills in a high stress situation like that of an attack. Ensure all your strikes, only involve simple body movements and you practice them regularly.

Train Hard – Fightwize!
Learn Self Defense

The Groin Kick

When I ask the question in Self Defense classes, “Who knows any effective techniques that we could use in a self defense situation? The most popular answer by far is “groin kick” or some other preferred term for the same technique.

Virtually everyone knows this as an effective target to go after. Any man can tell you that it certainly does hurt and could leave you incapacitated for quite some time. Even very light strikes in these areas can have a long lasting effect.

In a Self Defense situation, you would imagine that a groin kick would be a sensible option. However, there is a drawback. The human body is equipped with an instinctive reflex mechanism that will help protect this area at lightening speed.

The groin kick can be .....

For Full article - The Groin Kick

Learn Self Defense - Train Smart - Fightwize!
Learn Self Defense

#10 - Simple Self Defense

How to Overcome Larger, Stronger People, Regardless of Your Size and Strength

Simple Self Defense

In a high stress situation like that of being attacked, it is not possible for the amjority of people to carry out fine or complex motor skills. The two targets considered Primary Targets are the eyes and the throat. It does not take a genius to work out why either.

Without his eyes, that attacker cannot see and therefore cannot fight. Without his throat intact, the attacker cannot breathe and therefore cannot fight.

It does not take much of a strike to seriously injure a persons eyes, it does not take much to seriously injure a persons throat.

All this being said, the situation has to be pretty serious to justify you striking to the eyes or to the throat. If you feel that your life is in danger then you can do whatever it takes in order to defend yourself and preserve your own life.

Strikes from close quarters and from a submussive stance (as described in the previous posting) are highly likely to reach their target. As the Primary targets are so senstive, even light or partially stopped strikes will be effective.

strikes to these areas will at minimum create an opportunity to put some distance between you an the attacker.

For Full article - Targeting Weak and Sensitive Areas

Learn Self Defense - Train Smart - Fightwize!

If you have any questions please Click Here to Contact Us at Fightwize Self Defense
Learn Self Defense

#8 - Body Mechanics in Striking

How to Overcome Larger, Stronger People, Regardless of Your Size and Strength

Body Mechanics in Striking

Body Mechanics play an important role in getting the most out of your strikes. There are 2 basic types of strike:

1 - Distracting strikes that carry the perception of speed
2 - Power Strikes

Some methods of making your strikes more effective are:

#1 - Strikes appear fast and are much more likely to land when you use the closest tool to the closest target as an initial strike. An open hand that is 6 inches away from the attackers face will reach a target on the face far quicker than say an attempted round kick to the head. Even if the blow is not particularly hard, it can target sensitive areas such as the eyes for great effect. As it only has a very short distance to travel, it is very unlikely that the attacker could stop such a blow before it lands. Action is quicker than reaction

#2 - Power strikes should carry body weight. If it's a strike with the fist, open hands or elbows, rotating the hips, waist and shoulders. Your Power kicks should also use power generated through your hips.

#3 - Aiming about 6 inches through the target will make your strike more effective.

#4 - Aiming for weak or senstive areas increases the effect of the strike.

#5 - Striking from an unlikely position such as a submissive stance can catch the attacker off guard. Unexpected strikes carry more weight.

For Full article - Body Mechanics in Striking

Learn Self Defense - Train Smart - Fightwize!

If you have any questions please Click Here to Contact Us Whether it is a list of do's and don'ts or stories of other people's fortunes and misfortunes, you can learn from the information and their experience.

Increase awareness and you will make much less of a target. Predators are not looking for a fight bit easy pickings, if you look switched and confident, it's less likely that you will become that target.

It is easier said than done but if you can avoid being in a vulnerable situation in the first place then you are far less likely to get attacked. Some of the information that you read or hear will be obvious, even common sense, however, what may seem obvious to you may not be to others so never be shy in passing good information on to others.

Don't only be aware of potential situations that are going on but be aware of your immediate surroundings. In different locations, your level of awareness can change. Sitting at home behind locked doors, you can usually afford to beat a low level of alert. When you step outside into the street, that level of alertness may need to elevate a little. When you go to an area that you are not familiar with or you know the area is a likelyhood for trouble, then you need to be on maximum alert, looking out for people, strange movement, strange actions.

Look out for our Full article - Increase Awareness

Learn Self Defense - Train Smart - Fightwize!
Learn Self Defense

#5 Be Pre-Emptive

How to Overcome Larger, Stronger People, Regardless of Your Size and Strength

Be Pre-Emptive (Hit or be Hit!)

Many people would assume that you have to be physically struck before you can physically respond in Self Defense. The fear of getting hurt, the fear of getting killed, fear of getting raped and so on, your life flashes before your very eyes. The fact that you have children, family or friends that you may never see again right in your thoughts, can trigger fear’s biggest ally, panic.

On top of all the confusion, this fear triggers the release of adrenalin into your system. Your body shivers, your legs tremble, you break into a cold sweat, heart pounding, focused vision, increased heartbeat and your mouth as dry as sandpaper. Your body is reacting by pumping blood into your arms and legs, ready for you to take action. I’m sure that you’ve heard it before but your body is getting you ready for “fight or flight”.

We can control our emotions and...........................

For Full article, Click Here - Control Fear and Avoid Panic

Learn Self Defense - Train Smart - Fightwize!
Learn Self Defense

#3 Trust Your Gut Feeling

How to Overcome Larger, Stronger People, Regardless of Your Size and Strength

Trust Your Gut Feeling

Many survivors of violent attacks have one thing in common; they knew something was wrong, even before it actually happened.

We are all born with this gift. Some people call it your gut feeling, others call it intuition. It is the ability to know something without knowing why.

It is one thing to have this ability but another to actually trust it and act upon it. Don’t just hear the signals that are being picked up but listen to them and take action. Use that feeling as an excuse to at least assess your environment and take the necessary precautions or evasive actions.

You have this very special gift, it’s an internal feeling that we all experience at some point.........

For Full article, Click Here - Trust Your Gut Feeling

Learn Self Defense - Train Smart - Fightwize!

"The Gift of Fear" by Gavin De Becker is a fantastic book that covers Survival Signals. Everyone is different on this level, everyone has a different idea and that’s fine but I do urge you to consider what your limits are.

You must ask yourself “How far would I go to protect myself? Could I do whatever it takes if I was put in a position of life or death?

Many people will be thinking “of course I could it if I had to”. However, not only is everyone different but every situation is different. You have to know in your mind that if your life is threatened then you can and will do whatever it takes to protect yourself.

Do you have the intestinal fortitude to stick your fingers deep into an attacker’s eyes?

Again, many people are more willing to protect their children than themselves, they would not think twice about throwing themselves into the path pf danger for their child. However, there are so many ways that you can gain or improve your self defense skills that you will begin to realize just how possible it really is.

So as not to to overwhelm you with information, so I'm slowly going to take you through some real simple strategies, concepts and techniques, one tip at a time so sit tight, enjoy the ride and let the information sink in.

I really am here to help so if you ever have any questions that you'd like answering then please do not hesitate to contact me.

Introduction

Self Defense can take up many forms. It can be a response to a physical or sexual assault on yourself or another person. It could be dealing with an intruder into your home. It could be dealing with a verbal assault from an angry neighbor. It could be dealing with bullying of various types.

Whatever type it is you are confronting, it is necessary to arm yourself with some good basic information and if you can, make some time to attend a course to learn some effective techniques.
