Amazing Benefits for Children!

Have you ever seen bad kids? Have you ever seen kids lacking confidence and self-esteem? Have you ever seen a kid that’s been bullied or pushed around to a point they think it’s normal for things to be that way and that it’s their fault? Let me tell you something when you teach youngsters (no matter what it is you teach them) you see it all the time.

There are times when you have to build up the inner person as well as the outer. When you have to teach the kid how to handle the conflicts inside themselves, as well as the conflicts that they may face out on the Street. You need to teach respect for others, by first teaching them to respect themselves.

There is no Fool Proof Formula but I can tell you now that we have seen some amazing transformations in children who have attended our Martial Arts School.

If you have a Martial Arts School near you, go and take a look. Talk to the Instructors and if you like what you see and hear. Let your children give it a go.

What Causes "Side Stitch"?

What Causes "Side Stitches," and How do I get rid of them?

A "side stitch" is a sharp pain under the lower edge of the ribcage caused by a muscle spasm of the diaphragm.

Such pain can occur during vigorous exercise, such as running, and seems to more common in novice exercisers who have not yet established proper pacing and who tend to breathe more quickly and shallow.

However, a large percentage of all runners will experience side stitches at some point.

What exactly causes Side Stitches?

As we breathe in, we take air into the lungs, pressing the diaphragm downward. When we exhale, the diaphragm moves up. If the body has some trapped air/gas below the diaphragm, if we've eaten too close to exercise, or if we start exercising too vigorously, the diaphragm may cramp, causing pain under the rib cage on the right side.

A Cure for Side Stitch?

As with any muscle cramp, the best immediate treatment is to try to stretch the cramping muscle as much as possible.

How do you get to the diaphragm on the inside of your body?, Try altering your breathing pattern. Take a deep breath in as quickly as you can, to force the diaphragm down. Hold the breath for a couple of seconds and then forcibly exhale through pursed lips to restrict the outward air flow.

You may also find that bending forward can help you expel as much air as possible. I have actually found that stretching up as tall as I could, even to the point of extending arms up over head, then alternating crouch-tall and tightening/flexing the abs, helped as well.

You may have to stop and walk for a few seconds while concentrating on deep breathing. Continue running after the stitch goes away. If you get a cramp in the middle of a race, you might want to try mixing up your rhythmic breathing/ striding pattern.

If you always exhale when your right foot strikes the ground, try exhaling with the left foot strike.

Another technique that may work for some is peaceful visualization-

- if you are feeling stressed from the day or race, imagine you are elsewhere, & take deep calming breaths as you run.

How to Prevent Side Stitch

The most effective way to prevent a side stitch is to take deep, full "belly breaths" while running.

This allows the diaphragm to fully lower and reduces the stress on it. Taking a lot of shallow breaths when running, the diaphragm remains in a consistently high position and never lowers enough to allow the connective ligaments of the liver to relax.

The diaphragm becomes stressed and a "stitch" may result. Another way to prevent stitches is ensure you include a warm-up that helps gradually increase your running speed

Both Adults and Children - Reap the Benefits of Martial Arts

From our Kids Martial Arts Program to our Junior Program, an Adult Ju Jitsu Program and a Martial Arts Fitness program, our instructors are dedicated to helping you and/or your family achieve your individual goals.
Why are Martial Arts So Popular?
Martial arts are so popular because no other activity can provide the same results as Martial Arts for each individual participant. Whether your goals are self-confidence, self-defense, personal development, fitness, and flexibility or to earn a black belt, our school will take you there.

Martial Arts are Great for Children
Parents today are recognizing that the public school system is not enough. Millions of parents are bringing martial arts, as we teach here, into their children's lives to supplement their education.

Carleton University, in a study reported in Psychology Today (January 1985), found that children in martial arts have a lower level of anxiety; an increased sense of responsibility; a decrease in the willingness to take foolish risks; a higher sense of self-esteem; higher level of social intelligence; and were less likely to be radical.

Parents report these five important benefits for their children from our martial arts classes:

1. Our Reward System improves children's self-esteem
Martial arts are not like team sports because the emphasis is on developing the individual's self-esteem not the team's winning record. The belt and stripe system is the key. When kids earn their belts or stripes it gives them a great sense of accomplishment that really improves the way they feel about themselves.
2. Our program teaches children Discipline
On of the things parents appreciate most about our classes is the improvement in their child's self-discipline. We have a wonderful instructors who love to work with children, but are also very clear about limits. We enforce good rules of behavior in class, and we expect the same good behavior at home and in school.

3. Our activities channel children's Aggression
Many doctors actually prescribed our school for treatment because of the positive outlet it gives the kids for all their energy.

4. Our confidence classes enhance children's Self-Esteem
We believe confidence is one of the most important things we can give kids. That's why every class we teach has confidence-building drills included.

5. Our program teaches children essential Self Defence skills
Our program teaches practical, proven self-defense methods. We also teach the kids that the moves they learn in class will work, so they don't go home and try them on their sister, or neighbour.

Martial Arts is a Fun, Fulfilling Workout for Adults
Our adult students really appreciate the differences between martial arts training and standard exercise programs.

6. Our workouts are a great way to get in shape
Martial arts like an exercise program with a bonus! You learn to defend yourself while you get in shape.

7. Our classes relieve Stress
Martial arts are well known for its stress relieving benefits. The emphasis on mind-body training goes far beyond the benefits of standard, health club type exercise programs.

8. Our classroom practice sessions give you Confidence
I think the confidence building part of our program is what students appreciate the most. Nothing can take the place of the security in knowing that you can defend yourself, if you have to.

9. What we teach you could save your life
At our school, everything we teach is reality based. Our instructor's work very hard to insure that most any situation you might encounter is covered in the classroom under very safe learning conditions, so you will be prepared.

10. Our program is a lot of fun
The reason our program is so successful is because we make the classes fun and exciting. We learned a long time ago that if people are having fun, they learn much faster.

Our Programs
We a have number of different programs to offer even the busiest students. From our martial arts for children and pre-school classes to our martial arts fitness, and black belt programs we have a program for everyone.

Our Instructors
We're proud of our instructor's accomplishments. But, we're more proud of the achievements of our students. Our instructors understand that the student's individual progress is the most important focus of their attention. That's why our instructors continue to be students themselves. They take classes, attend seminars and continually work to improve their ability to help our students reach their goals.

Our Commitment to You
We're so confident in our program that we offer a money back guarantee. If, within your first 3 classes, you don't feel you are getting the benefits you desire from our school, we will refund your money. Try getting that from a health spa.

Please do not hesitate to contact me directly with any questions.

Whose Fault When Children Don't Listen?

Focus is one of the main areas where Martial Arts can really help children.

As a parent, have you ever found yourself wishing that your son or daughter listened better?  Do you feel that just a slight improvement in their listening skills would make a huge difference in their potential?

Getting your child to absorb 100% of what you're telling them is a challenge that many parents and teachers face. Did you ever wonder..."Boy I hope he listens in school better than he does at home!"

If your son or daughter could improve their listening comprehension just 10% it would have a profound impact on them don't you agree? So here's what you can do...

First understand that your child is forced to deal with dozens of external distractions during the course of the day; TV, radio, classmates, computers, and the list goes on.  These external distractions combined with your child's internal distractions, (the inability to control one's thought process) cause most listening problems.

Make your child aware of these two distractions, (internal and external) teach him the difference between each, then get him to give you examples of when each one affected his ability to listen. Just this knowledge will make him a better listener.

Teach your child the importance of focusing his eyes, ears, mind, and body.  Focusing all four will engage him totally in the listening process.  Make sure your child knows that when it comes time to listen the first thing he has to do is look at the person talking in the eyes.

When his eyes are focused he could then tune in his ears to the message and process it in his mind.  Now you're getting somewhere!

Finally, teach him about standing or sitting up straight when listening, if the body is out of focus or slouched the message will not be clearly understood.  Maybe you could hold off on delivering your message until his body is focused and up -right.

Becoming aware of these simple but effective concepts will go a long way toward helping your child be a more focused listener.  Try them out and see how they work!
