#9 - Targeting weak and sensitive areas

How to Overcome Larger, Stronger People, Regardless of Your Size and Strength

Targeting weak and sensitive areas

The human body is full of weak and senstive areas. The two targets considered Primary Targets are the eyes and the throat. It does not take a genius to work out why either.

Without his eyes, that attacker cannot see and therefore cannot fight. Without his throat intact, the attacker cannot breathe and therefore cannot fight.

It does not take much of a strike to seriously injure a persons eyes, it does not take much to seriously injure a persons throat.

All this being said, the situation has to be pretty serious to justify you striking to the eyes or to the throat. If you feel that your life is in danger then you can do whatever it takes in order to defend yourself and preserve your own life.

Strikes from close quarters and from a submussive stance (as described in the previous posting) are highly likely to reach their target. As the Primary targets are so senstive, even light or partially stopped strikes will be effective.

strikes to these areas will at minimum create an opportunity to put some distance between you an the attacker.

#8 - Body Mechanics in Striking

How to Overcome Larger, Stronger People, Regardless of Your Size and Strength

Body Mechanics in Striking

Body Mechanics play an important role in getting the most out of your strikes. There are 2 basic types of strike:

1 - Distracting strikes that carry the perception of speed
2 - Power Strikes

Some methods of making your strikes more effective are:

#1 - Strikes appear fast and are much more likely to land when you use the closest tool to the closest target as an initial strike. An open hand that is 6 inches away from the attackers face will reach a target on the face far quicker than say an attempted round kick to the head. Even if the blow is not particularly hard, it can target sensitive areas such as the eyes for great effect. As it only has a very short distance to travel, it is very unlikely that the attacker could stop such a blow before it lands. Action is quicker than reaction

#2 - Power strikes should carry body weight. If it's a strike with the fist, open hands or elbows, rotating the hips, waist and shoulders. Your Power kicks should also use power generated through your hips.

#3 - Aiming about 6 inches through the target will make your strike more effective.

#4 - Aiming for weak or senstive areas increases the effect of the strike.

#5 - Striking from an unlikely position such as a submissive stance can catch the attacker off guard. Unexpected strikes carry more weight.

#6 Increase Awareness

How to Overcome Larger, Stronger People, Regardless of Your Size and Strength

Increase Awareness

With some reading and research, you can greatly increase your awareness. Whether it is a list of do's and don'ts or stories of other people's fortunes and misfortunes, you can learn from the information and their experience.

Increase awareness and you will make much less of a target. Predators are not looking for a fight bit easy pickings, if you look switched and confident, it's less likely that you will become that target.

It is easier said than done but if you can avoid being in a vulnerable situation in the first place then you are far less likely to get attacked. Some of the information that you read or hear will be obvious, even common sense, however, what may seem obvious to you may not be to others so never be shy in passing good information on to others.

Don't only be aware of potential situations that are going on but be aware of your immediate surroundings. In different locations, your level of awareness can change. Sitting at home behind locked doors, you can usually afford to beat a low level of alert. When you step outside into the street, that level of alertness may need to elevate a little. When you go to an area that you are not familiar with or you know the area is a likelyhood for trouble, then you need to be on maximum alert, looking out for people, strange movement, strange actions.

#5 Be Pre-Emptive

How to Overcome Larger, Stronger People, Regardless of Your Size and Strength

Be Pre-Emptive (Hit or be Hit!)

Many people would assume that you have to be physically struck before you can physically respond in Self Defense. Let me tell you now that this is totally untrue, well certainly in any civilized country of the World anyway. If you could only respond after you had been attacked, then it could simply be too late by then.

In most civilized countries around the World, you have the right to defend yourself. However, as this article is not intended as legal advice, I would advise that you check the Self Defense laws for your Country, State, Province or area.

You do not have to wait to be struck in order to defend yourself ................

#4 Control Fear and Avoid Panic

How to Overcome Larger, Stronger People, Regardless of Your Size and Strength

Control Fear and Avoid Panic

One of our biggest enemies during a conflict can often times be fear. The fear of getting hurt, the fear of getting killed, fear of getting raped and so on, your life flashes before your very eyes. The fact that you have children, family or friends that you may never see again right in your thoughts, can trigger fear’s biggest ally, panic.

On top of all the confusion, this fear triggers the release of adrenalin into your system. Your body shivers, your legs tremble, you break into a cold sweat, heart pounding, focused vision, increased heartbeat and your mouth as dry as sandpaper. Your body is reacting by pumping blood into your arms and legs, ready for you to take action. I’m sure that you’ve heard it before but your body is getting you ready for “fight or flight”.

We can control our emotions and...........................

#3 Trust Your Gut Feeling

Trust Your Gut Feeling

Many survivors of violent attacks have one thing in common; they knew something was wrong, even before it actually happened.

We are all born with this gift. Some people call it your gut feeling, others call it intuition. It is the ability to know something without knowing why.

It is one thing to have this ability but another to actually trust it and act upon it. Don’t just hear the signals that are being picked up but listen to them and take action. Use that feeling as an excuse to at least assess your environment and take the necessary precautions or evasive actions.

You have this very special gift, it’s an internal feeling that we all experience at some point.........

#2 Know Your Limits

How to Overcome Larger, Stronger People, Regardless of Your Size and Strength

Know your Limits!

Have you ever really considered, to what extremes you would go, in order to protect yourself? Everyone is different on this level, everyone has a different idea and that’s fine but I do urge you to consider what your limits are.

You must ask yourself “How far would I go to protect myself? Could I do whatever it takes if I was put in a position of life or death?

Many people will be thinking “of course I could it if I had to”. However, not only is everyone different but every situation is different. You have to know in your mind that if your life is threatened then you can and will do whatever it takes to protect yourself.

Do you have the intestinal fortitude to stick your fingers deep into an attacker’s eyes?

Again, many people are more willing to protect their children than themselves, they would not think twice about throwing themselves into the path pf danger for their child. This type of emotion is so strong,.............
